Inspiration: Whimsical Wednesdays

Miss Julie over at The Peaceful Peacock is undertaking an awesome self-assigned assignment (ha. . self assigned assignment!).  An assignment to sign herself up for assignments.  (This is getting ridiculous!).  Inspired by it begins with a color and my own humble (and completely randomly titled) foodie friday, she’s going to be photographing something colorful each week and maybe cooking something or posting something food-oriented on Fridays.

I love me a good assignment, so I’m doing a little self-assigned assignment too.  I’m in on Foodie Fridays because of the CSA, but I’m also going to add in a new one too.

For the next 3 months (June, July and August), I’m hoping to do an art/science/cooking project with Abby every other Wednesday (or every once in a while Wednesday due to a few trips and such).  I always look at art inspired blogs or crafty books and think I’m going to do stuff with her, but never end up making the effort to get the supplies down and allow her to get a little messy.  I think part of my problem is the pressure I put on myself to do really involved and fancy projects.  So, I’m taking the pressure away and going for simple.  Sometimes it really just might be crayons and paper.  Here are a few ideas I have to pick from for the coming weeks:

Weave on a Cardboard Loom
Teach Abby to use a knitting spool
Finger Knitting
Roller Printing
Fingerprint drawings
Sidewalk Chalk Paint

or here
Nature Weaving
Simple Handsewing
Make cap stamps
Arm Dancing (drawing to music, letting the music dictate the motion of your arm,  an idea I found in Scribble Art by Mary Ann Kohl)
Fairy Rings
Monoprinting
Make Homemade Pretzels
Handmade Paper Shapes

Make Lip Balm

Nature Prints in Sculpey

Make a Sundial

Shadow Play

Ice Treasures

Make our own lick and stick stickers
and here
Make your own stickers
Water Color Initials
Make some shrinky dinks
Make our own watercolor pages
Paint with Beet Juice and Turmeric Powder

Put the bird house and bird feeder out (yeah, I know it’s the wrong time of year, but they’ve been sitting since Christmas).
Salad Spinner painting
Dry some seaweed and make art, like this or this more inspiration here
Fimo Stamps

So, that’s way more than I’ll ever get going, but I like to have choices!  Join me in Whimsical Wednesdays if you’re so inclined.  In the interest of *actually* doing this, I might just slack on posting the results.  Perhaps a monthly round-up will happen.  The important part is to get into it!

(props to The Artful Parent for many of these ideas!)

    Carrie,

I wrote on Heather’s blog today about how much I adore your little owl that is your mascot for your Etsy shop- I would never dream of taking him from you! I wanted you to know that I love your blog and I am linking to it for this post. What a great idea to have a theme for the day- really gets you going!

Thank you for the link to my blog! I think simple projects are better anyway.
