Foodie Friday: Tomatoes

September 4, 2009
I’m editing this to add pictures and names of some of the tomatoes farm members might encounter in their share this week.  They are all just incredibly beautiful!  The links below are just where the pictures came from, not necessarily where our farm’s seeds came from. Some of the links have more information about the tomatoes, and some don’t.

I’ve been out of town, and for the first time, I actually had to call the farm and ask what we’re getting in our shares this week so I could find a recipe that would work.  I usually keep half an eye out for a recipe or two while I’m cooking all week.  But, take me away from my own kitchen and I’m suddenly completely uninspired.  I found this recipe in my mother in law’s Sunset magazine (Thanks Beth!).  Substitute our heirloom tomatoes from the farm for the romas called for in the recipe, but perhaps cut them down a bit smaller than just in half.

I also put the 3,2,1 Easy Peasy Cream of anything Soup recipe in this week’s cropsheet.  You can find it here on the blog.

this sounds sooo good. makes me kind of want to make this into an heirloom tomato/poached egg napoleon? Do you think that might work if we cook this down in big equatorial slices? hmmm
