So, I was trying to cram a whole lot of stuff into those last days of summer before school started. Somehow, I managed to convince myself that there’d be no time to do stuff once school started. But, let me tell you what. . . 11:23a.m. comes pretty quickly. So, that list I made at the beginning of summer? Oh, I’m making a new one because this mama has 6 hours of alone time with the kiddo a day still. After about the 4th hour yesterday, I was ready to poke my eyes out. I adore my kid, but I just wasn’t prepared for so much time together!!! We’re going to need to find a rhythm and routine for these next 7 weeks or we’ll go nutty.
Many of these ideas came from the summer lists of this year and last year. I’ll add projects and ideas as we go.
- Make pipecleaner dolls
- Make our own watercolors (or here).
- Make a go fish game.
- Make splat balls and play REALLY hard with them.
- Make a Fairy Loom
- Make the yard more kiddo friendly with help from this e-guide and this list
- Make wings
- Teach Abby to use a knitting spool
- Finger Knitting
- Roller Printing
- Fingerprint drawings
- Nature Weaving
- Make cap stamps
- Arm Dancing (drawing to music, letting the music dictate the motion of your arm, an idea I found in Scribble Art by Mary Ann Kohl)
- Make Homemade Pretzels
- Handmade Paper Shapes
- Make Lip Balm
- Make Tortillas
- Cereal Box Puppet Theater
- Make our own lick and stick stickers and here
- Make your own stickers
- Carve a stamp so we can. . .
- Place a letterbox
- Make our own watercolor pages
- Fimo Stamps
- Rubber Band-Powered Paper Airplanes
- Science Scavenger Hunt
- Cardboard Tube Dragonflies
- Pattern Weaver
- Autumn Leaf Crowns
Things I’d like to do daily with Abby:
- Read to her
- Have her read to me
- Eat a healthy lunch at home
- Practice gratitude with grace at dinner or highlights at bedtime
- Get outside
- Exercise
Things I’d like to do weekly with Abby:
- Bake
- Some sort of science exploration (Abby’s kindergarten won’t start science “kits” until January, and I’m thinking we’ll want to supplement that at home anyway).
- Field Trip
- Go to the library
- Go out to lunch or take a picnic lunch somewhere
- Family art time (both of us doing some quiet drawing or painting at the same time)

Great list, Carrie. Since I have my kiddo all day, everyday – this is helpful to me as well. :)
BTW – I have a tortilla recipe on my blog that is by far my fav. Nothing compares to homemade tortillas. Have fun! xo

Such energy my dear daughter!! I wish I had an inch of yours :)
Abby is a very lucky girl to have you BOTH for parents..!!
Love MOM/Grandmama
I admire the thought you put into parenting. I really do. So, I was thinking, if you need a companion for Abby on any one of those things, I’ll consider letting you have her for an afternoon(or two). ;)
